Miami

Eat, Stay, Play

by dombezalergii

Set amidst a cinematic backdrop of pristine beaches and showstopping sunsets, Miami is full of surprises and delights of every type. From the art culture to the art deco architecture and the abundant diversity of cuisine and culture, it’s no wonder this city is among one of our very favorites.

EAT

Macchialian, a cozy Italian restaurant in the heart of South Beach, has become a main spot for locals and in-the-know tourists. The rustic yet sophisticated Italian fare never misses, and chef and owner Michael Pirolo’s spaghetti con vongole is worth going out of your way for. Head north to visit chef Thomas Keller’s Lido at the Surf Club attached to the Four Seasons for the best oceanfront dining experience and delicious Mediterranean cuisine. If you like his cooking style based on southern Italian roots, stop over at his French-style restaurant, Bouchon Bistro, located in Coral Gables. Our favorite spot for oysters in Miami is Mignonette. Panther Coffee is one of Miami’s dearest specialty coffee joints, and you can’t go wrong with their cold brew, especially in the Florida heat.

STAY

The Betsy Hotel is the perfect getaway when staying in the heart of South Beach. Sunrise yoga, nightly live jazz music, and the in-house library make this architectural landmark the perfect hideaway from the busy streets of Miami, which is why it’s one of our favorites. For an immersive Miami experience, The Good Time Hotel is the place to be. Make sure to stop at their rooftop swim club, Strawberry Moon, for their instagrammable set-up, namely weekend events, or head over to their beach club for a dip in the ocean. If staying in North Beach, the Four Seasons SurfSide never misses. It’s a great stay when you have the kids with you, and their year-round Sunday brunch is always a fan favorite.

PLAY

Start off by grabbing a coffee and light breakfast from Breezeblock Coffee before heading to shop with a view at Bayside Marketplace. Stop over at the Frost Science Museum post-shopping haul to check out their three-story aquarium or the Perez Art Museum Miami while you’re in the area before making your way to spend some time admiring the Wynwood walls.

Not only is Miami filled with art and culture, it’s also a growing hub for the tech community. If you’re wanting to see a museum that bridges tech and art, visit Artech House Miami before making your way to the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. For those who love winding stairs, stained glass windows, architecture, and gardens, it’s the perfect place to roam around and dream. If you’re looking to do some dancing and NY-style pizza by the slice, we recommend Gramps; it’s an indoor/outdoor local bar with DJ’s spinning vinyls. Stop by Coyo Taco for a midnight snack or to check out the speakeasy (the entrance is near the bathroom). Stop at Dirty French Steakhouse to hit one last hidden gem on your way back to the hotel.
